Washing Station: Gahahe
Producer: 600 small hold farmers
Elevation: 1800 m
The Gahahe washing station is located in Burundi’s northern province of Kayanza, bordering Rwanda to the north and the Kibria National Park to the west. Here 600 small hold farmers deliver cherry, of mostly old Bourbon types grown at 1800 masl, to be processed. Originally built in the 1980’s, Gahahe has recently come under the direction of a Burundi coffee investment group who have been able to offer agronomic assistance to station members, regular maintenance of equipment and drying beds, and management teams who can follow coffee deliveries from cherry selection to assure lot separation by quality tiers. The level of quality and care at Gahahe is extremely high and evident by their #4 finish in the Burundi Cup of Excellence competition and 7th place finish in 2014.
