Muchagara is from Kirinyaga, a region that is no stranger to producing excellent coffee. The factory is also part of the Baragwi Coffee Farmers Cooperative Society, an umbrella Cooperative for more familiar names like Guama, Karumandi and Gachami among others. This lot really stood out to us and our importer in a series of blind cuppings for it’s floral and delicate nature.

Each lot consists of coffees from hundreds of smallholders in the local surroundings of the washing station (or factory). The coffee is traditionally processed by dry fermentation before being washed and graded in channels and then dried on raised beds. Flowering of the coffee trees in this region of Kenya typically takes place between March and April with harvest starting the following November and continuing through December. However this year flowering was delayed due to delayed spring rains and a cold spell. This has lead to decreased production and a delay in our coffee arriving state side hence the fall release of what is typically a coffee we release midsummer most years.
